You’re probably wondering what in Hell’s Kitchen possessed me to do this.
The Mushy Gushy Version
I wanted to provide script writers of all stages an affordable, personal, and enjoyable script consulting service. I teach script writing in a location where there are not a lot of resources for writers.
So usually, the options for writers to receive notes on their scripts are from well-meaning jerks on Reddit or sharing it with their *mom, neither of whom are qualified to give productive feedback.
I know there are tons of great online services to get feedback on your work. But unlike these big time script consulting services run by fancy Hollywood folks, your script won’t be 1 out of 1000s in a pile on my desk. I’m not going to charge you an absurd flat rate just to give you basic, barebones comments. And I won’t just send you a PDF and disappear. As an academic professional, my approach to script consulting isn’t “is it good or not”. My goal is to elevate your script and your writing to it’s fullest potential.
I’m a real human who cares about the script YOU want to write. I’ll support the story you want to tell. I’ll help you kick writer’s block to the curb and I’ll celebrate with you when you have those “lightbulb” moments. I love what I do so much, I’m willing to do it for food.
*Unless your mom is Carrie Fisher who, fun fact, worked as a script consultant after Star Wars!
The Fun Version
I’ve taught screenwriting, sketch comedy, and writing workshops all over South Florida. My classrooms have included some lady’s living room in Hialeah, FL all the way to the university level.
I also love food and find it really frustrating that no one has invented a way to eat salad and still use both hands to type.
As a professor in screenwriting, I don’t grade papers. Instead, I read scripts and I love it.
This all started when I noticed my students would continue to send me their scripts even after they graduated. I would happily read them with a snack in hand.
But soon, with more students in my life, more drafts were pinging into my inbox and suddenly there was a lot less time to devote the proper energy and attention to each script that I believe every writer deserves.
Then one day it hit me like a stale baguette. I ALWAYS made time to sit down for food. What if the writer and I could enjoy a meal AND workshop their script at the same time? And so, Feedback With Suki was born.
